At about 4:30 am this morning the police received a report from a 15-year-old girl who informed them that her father had driven off in his taxi when he should have been taking care of her. She had also received a WhatsApp message from him saying he wished to commit suicide. Police issued a search warning. At about 6:00 am, on the basis of information received, police rushed to the parking lot at Tai Mong Tsai. They finally found the taxi involved parked outside the Yau Lee Store.
The 47-year-old driver was lying in the car unconscious. There was a plate of burned-out charcoal in the car. Ambulancemen rushed him to Tseung Kwan O Hospital, but eventually he died at 6:32 am.
Police subsequently carried out further investigation into the cause of the victim’s death. They stated that they did not find a suicide note at the scene. The preliminary investigation showed there was no suspicious incident but the cause of death was still to be determined after the autopsy. It is understood that the deceased was unhappy and suffered from emotional problems.
